The Warhol Announces DIY Warhol App

The Andy Warhol Museum announces the relaunch of DIY Warhol (formerly known as DIY Pop), as an innovative web app that invites users to create digital silkscreen prints inspired by Andy Warhol’s artistic process. This interactive web-based experience guides users step-by-step through cropping, exposing, underpainting and virtually pulling a silkscreen to achieve a Warhol-esque Pop Art aesthetic. When finished, users can download and share their creations.

“Thanks to advancements in technology, DIY Warhol is available for free on any device with a modern web browser,” said Derek Palladino, director of digital engagement. “We’re thrilled to make this creative experience accessible to everyone and inspire artistic expression.”

In addition to the print-making feature, DIY Warhol offers video tutorials, extended text and links to further educational resources, allowing users to explore the silkscreen printing process from beginning to end.

“Since The Warhol opened its doors in 1994, visitors have been able to create silkscreen prints inspired by Warhol in our art-making studio, The Factory. Now everyone, everywhere can explore Warhol’s silkscreen printing process and claim their own 15 minutes of fame by creating a digital silkscreen print to share with the world,” said Nicole Dezelon, senior director of learning and public engagement.

The DIY Warhol app can be found at diy.warhol.org.

The Warhol receives state arts funding support through a grant from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania; the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency; and The Heinz Endowments. Further support is provided by the Allegheny Regional Asset District.
