For immediate release
Wednesday, October 31, 2012
Director Eric Shiner states, “The Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh is delighted to participate in the UR1 Music & Art Festival (“UR1 Festival) as a cultural partner. Warhol was a pioneer in mixing media and, as the guardian of Warhol’s legacy, The Warhol Museum strives to keep Andy Warhol at the center of the intersection between visual art, music, and performance. UR1 Festival features artists who were directly a part of Warhol’s work (Lou Reed) and contemporary artists (Jane’s Addiction and Kanye West) who creatively mix art, commerce and popular culture. The Warhol’s 13 Most Beautiful project will be present at the UR1 Festival as a clear demonstration that Warhol’s films continue to fascinate and inspire cutting edge artists around the world. We are grateful to UR1 Festival and KIWI Arts Group for this opportunity.”
13 Most Beautiful…Songs for Andy Warhol’s Screen Tests features a selection of Warhol’s four-minute silent film portraits with newly commissioned soundtracks by Dean Wareham and Britta Phillips, performing as Dean and Britta. The project was jointly commissioned by The Warhol Museum and The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust for the 2008 Pittsburgh International Festival of Firsts and was developed by Ben Harrison, Curator of Performing Arts, with Geralyn Huxley, Curator of Film and Video, and Greg Pierce, Assistant Curator of Film and Video of The Warhol. Taking the form of a multi-media concert, the project began touring in January ’09 at Lincoln Center in New York and has since toured throughout the country and internationally to almost fifty venues and continues to accept offers into 2014. The project also resulted in the first official release of early Warhol films on DVD, which was produced in collaboration with Plexifilm and launched in April ’09.
